Klima-Therm is a proud sponsor of the latest World Refrigeration Day (WRD) which takes place on Monday, June 26th.

Roberto Mallozzi, the company’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to be associated with such a prestigious industry event which promotes such an important part of everybody’s life and work. With more than 15 million people employed globally in the cooling sector, refrigeration is central to so many facets of life.”

He added: “There are around five billion refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems operating globally and these touch upon every aspect of temperature control, creating the right conditions in everything from food and drinks to the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors and the hospitality industry.”

The inaugural WRD was on June 26th, 2019. It was originally proposed and founded by respected RAC industry champion Stephen Gill to raise the profile of the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump sectors and to focus attention on the role these technologies play in modern life.

This year’s World Refrigeration Day theme – ‘Next Generation Cooling’ – highlights the need for innovative and sustainable cooling solutions that can meet the increasing demands of our rapidly changing world.

Building on last year’s campaign (‘Cooling Matters’), this year’s theme will look forward in a bid to raise awareness of how the modern cooling industry is adapting to meet the challenges and opportunities the sector faces – supplying the increasing demand for low carbon cooling and heating solutions in a warming climate.

As well as highlighting next generation cooling solutions, this year’s WRD theme also reflects the need to support the workforce within the sector. Mr Gill said: “As an industry, we need to recruit, train and retain people equipped with the knowledge and skills that a modern, forward-thinking industry requires.”

He added: “Just as no-one will expect the cooling solutions that we supply in the future to be the same as those from the past, no-one should expect the workforce to be the same either. This year’s campaign is an opportunity to showcase what we are doing now to ensure we have the diverse and highly skilled workforce that our sector needs for the future”.

Klima-Therm is joined in its support of WRD by several high-profile international organisations including government agencies, industry, professional groups, scientific and engineering associations, as well as by governments, companies, and individuals.

They include the Building Engineering Services Association, ASHRAE, Eurovent, the Institute of Refrigeration, the Chinese Association of Refrigeration, FETA, RACCA Australia, and the Society of Air-conditioning and Refrigerating Engineers of Korea.

WRD is celebrated on June 26th each year. The date is significant because it is the birthday (in 1824) of Lord Kelvin who, in 1848, invented the international system of absolute temperature that bears his name.

WRD encourages the industry to celebrate World Refrigeration Day 2023 using hashtags #NextGenCooling, #WorldRefrigerationDay and #WREFD23. To learn more about WRD, visit the campaign’s website or contact info@worldrefrigerationday.org
